I’m Julie, a type 1 diabetic trying to get through her 20s without causing too much trouble.

I’ve been a Type 1 Diabetic for over 20 years.  Despite having diabetes since I was five, I have never been able to connect with many other people with T1D. As a kid, I went to some sleep away camps, but those weeks during a few summers were the only time that I got to interact with other people just like me. After attending a JDRF conference last year, I quickly realized that I was SO out of touch with the diabetes world. Someone used the term “T1D” and I had NO idea what it meant! I wanted to make a change, and I realized that there is a lot that we diabetics have to deal with that no one else can really understand. I was capable of dealing with all of it on my own, but I realized that there are so many other people who have to deal with diabetes just like me. My doctor told me about diabetes blogs, and after reading a few, I was instantly hooked!  I had been reading and following other diabetes blogs for a few months when one day I decided that I needed to find other 20somethings with diabetes.

When I’m not trying to figure out how to keep my diabetes happy, I’m teaching first grade near DC.
